Delta Stripers on the Fly

Location: San Joaquin River South East of Franks Tract

Scott here...I had an awesome half-day out on the Delta yesterday, targeting stripers on the fly with Delta Guide Jerry Neuburger of DeltaStripers.com.

Jerry gave me a quick lesson on topwater presentation and POW! we were hooked up in just a few casts at our first stop.

The topwater bite continued for a good few hours. What a thrill watching those stripers come up and attack the popper. One hungry fish even jumped out of the water just feet from the boat going for my fly.

Once the topwater bite slowed down we switched over to some subsurface fishing, grabbed a few more and headed back to the barn. Our biggest fish was a nine pounder and others were in the 4 to 6 pound range.

Fly fishing for stripers is a total blast and I'm definitely feeling the addiction. "The tug is the drug!"
